1. What did I learn this week? This week, we continued talking about DNA and how DNA is the blueprint for living things. We watched a few videos explaining DNA and how it's located within the nucleus of a cell. DNA looks like a twisted latter that has bases paired together. We talked about how Adenine is paired with thymine and cytosine is paired with guanine. It seems like a twisted ladder and we were actually able to participate in an activity where we created our own strands of DNA. We mix and matched the sides that bases were on and even twisted it to create something that actually looked just like DNA! We also took a look into creating our children and used a coin to determine the genes that the parents had. It was very similar to an activity that I did back in 7th grade where we did something similar. It puts a different perspective on genealogy and how hard it is for recessive traits to be passed down to offspring. 2. What parts were clear and what were confusi...

Hi Maddy! I agree that a lot of the topics discussed in lab this week were review, but it was nice to get a reminder and learn ways to teach these topics to elementary school kids. I also agree that it is so important to incorporate meaningful science lessons into the classroom. Cute turtles!
ReplyDeleteHi Maddy!! I love that you did the life cycle of a turtle, I ALSO did that!!!! I agree that it felt like we were back in elementary school relearning about these things it was lots of fun! I love what you said about it being our job to build of their curiosities!! Great job this week!
ReplyDeleteI agree that it was nice to participate in these activities and have a hands on learning experience like we would want in our future classrooms. Although most of the information is review, it shows me new ways to teach it that I didn't have before. I love your turtle life cycle, they look so cute!!
ReplyDeleteHi Maddy! I love your life cycle out of play-doh, you all made those turtles look so good! I thought the same about how this activity really brought my inner child out and I loved it so much!
